I get TV signal from 3 directions. Works fine the analog way. One of those directions is a repeater UHF, so will remain analog - weaker signals so I don't always get tho.
The 'sideways' direction don't seem to work at all well in digital, too much reflection for digital - didn't bother for analog.
The 3rd direction is farthest away, but the most stations & used to be the best reception - tho on the fringe. We were told these would all be converted to UHF signals, so don't need a VHF antennea any more.
Turns out that is not true - one, if not 3, are returning to their VHF signal in February.
So, whatever antennea I picked out last summer - is pointless now. They didn't tell us that until early January tho.....
With half power, and analog repeater, and changing VHF policy, there really isn't anything I can do to prepare for the change, _until_ it happens, and figure out what they _actually_ do. Then I'll need to figure out what works to pull in the signal.
Living out on the prairie, I have a grove of tall trees, and so my reception changes from winter to summer. Tree leaves you know. I shall have to wait until late May to find out what _that_ does to my reception.
Back in November, several of the stations were not broadcasting in HD. Since November the UHF repeater has decided to go to digiatal with a couple of their channels after all, but not with most of them.... How could I prepare for that last summer?????
If some of you live in the shadow of the TV towers & everything is rosey, good for you. Don't assume whatever you are doing will work for everyone else.
Some of you are upgrading from a 20 dollar reciver to a 40 dollar one? Then you really don't have a clue - many of us have many times that invested in our current antennea systems.... Most folks I know are way beyond that to get TV, and now have to adapt to something that keeps changing. In the middle of winter!
I will, and fine, and won't be with your help obviously.
Sorry if I prefer the change to happen when I can work with it, rather than the middle of winter. Someone shoulda been on the ball & planned this a little better from the get go. Their timing was aweful. Someone sitting in an office, oblivious to what it is they are actually doing....
Parts of Europe chose a much better standard. The USA one has a lot od issue with distortion & relfection. Harder to get a useable signal with the USA version.
D'oh. You'd think perhaps the owners of Dish & Direct woulda created the whole thing - but even _they_ woulda done the switchover in summertime to help their installers do a better & cheaper job of putting up the dishes on everyones' houses......

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
