"Maybe the fine folks in Missouri wouldn't want a poor hillbilly amongst them..that, I can understand." Really now, how would we tell the difference? I always thought the hillbilly term originated from the Ozarks. As fars as decent land at a decent price it is available. However, if your working a minimum wage job I doubt you will ever own a 100 acres. There is plenty of land in this state that is in my opinion priced fair and can be had for $1500 dollars an acre and up. We do have to do the math though and 100 acres at $1500 per acre is $150,000. I would expect most land to run in the $2,000 and up range, now were at $200,000. Compared to other parts of the country these prices could be considered cheap, but once again you won't afford them on a minimum wage job. The sad part of the situation is that I am seeing the tracts of land be subdivided into smaller parts on a daily basis. It seems that folks can't afford to buy that 120 acres for a fair price so it gets divided into 3 40 acre parcels. This seems to drive the price per acre up for some reason so next time someone sells it makes it to 20 acre parcels. I think in this country any one willing to actually work for a living will probably never go hungry, that does not mean we will all own large tracts of pristine farmland though.
