I asked a question on the YT forums a few months ago regarding the tightening torque (foot pounds) for a crankshaft nut on a 4 cylinder flathead Continental engine. It is a 7/8" fine thread nut and it holds on the pulley which drives the waterpump and generator. The pulley is keyed to the crank. I received suggestions from 100 pounds to 200 pounds (quite a variation), some including to use locktite. Anyways, the guy from Continental engines here in town (who told me before he couldn't find a spec) now tells me their manual says from 100 - 120 pounds, BUT he would only go 80 (seems pretty low) because the nut has probably been off and on several times over 50 years or so. I'm not sure it's been off more than once. Anyways, any last suggestions? I'll go with the one that sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Thanks, Mike.

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
