The code book was revised because the remote ground bond to the neutral causes neutral current to flow in the grounding system. The code book also used to allow two conductor wiring without a ground wire. And two prong 120V/15amp household receptacles. So it was wrong then and it's wrong now to bond the neutral to earth at a remote or pony panel.
