It sounds like a slight short in the plates Jack. Over charging is the only other thing I know of. It will still weep with either of these problems, even after you take it out of the tractor. The easiest to check for me would be to put a tester on the tractor while it's running and check the gen output. If the out put is ok then load up the draw on the battery. If there's a short in the plates it should boil or bubble a little when the battery is in a strain.
