You're a long way from being nutsoid! Everyone who has owned an old tractor, car, you name it has been here. Let's see if we can figure it out. Redo the compression test. This time, write down the number you get from each cylinder, then add 1 teaspoon of engine oil through the spark plug hole and immediately re-check the compression. Do this for each cylinder. Write these results down too. If adding the oil raised the compression then the rings are shot. Nothing short of honing and new rings will fix it. If adding the oil does NOT raise the compression, then the valve guides are shot. New valve guides are in order. This will narrow the problem down so you only fix (and pay for) that which needs fixin'. I like peanut butter and beans as much as anyone but I don't think I'd be able to live on it more than a few days, hopefully you won't have to either! Good luck!
