I've used a light grease to coat every part as I re-assemble engines. This works very well and keeps lubrication where you need it until the oil galleys can fill and take over. Lubriplate is my favorite but others have their own home brew. The Boeing Co. has a cart that they developed for reclaiming an old B-29 from the Arizona dessert (Luke AFB). It's an oil resevoir with a pump and a heater. After cycling warm oil through an engine that hadn't been turned in over 50 years, it started and flew home! I'm still amazed but the value of good lubrication can't be overlooked. I've been told that an electric oil pump that could be activated before an engine was turned over, would at least double the wear life. I think I believe it.
