I'm with you and I think it is a conspiracy. Most of us will swallow anything (except antifreeze) without even thinking about it. You went into a pretty good description of lots of stuff that hasn't had any problems. Years ago, I came across an article in an automotive or science magazine where some cab company in New York had bought a whole bunch of new cabs, same make, same engine, etc. They divided the group into a number of sub-groups ranging from having oil changes every 3000 mile or so to a group having absolutely no oil changes. After 200000 miles (I think it was) all the engines were torn down and evaluated, tolerances measured, etc. Results showed no signigicant difference amongst any of the groups. Now, I'm not suggesting it's not a good idea to change your oil, but that was certainly an interesting study.
