One time when my wife was City Bookkeeper, she found evidence that the City Clerk had his fingers in the till. She reported it to the Mayor, and the City Council confirmed the evidence she found. The City Clerk was fired and charged accordingly.
He blew his brains out the day before his trial was to start. But, if she hadn't reported when she found it, she would have been an accomplice.
