The old Delco alternators that are made for an external regulator have the R&F terminals mounted side by side in a hole aprox 3/4 square on the alternator rear( looks like this [II] ). The 10 SI with built in regulator has the #1#2 terminals in a 1/4X1-1/4 rectangular hole in the rear side of the alternator, the terminals are mounted end to end in this narrow slot.(looks like this [- -]). Delco also built a few external regulator alternators that used the built in regulator alternators case so a lot of the early 10 SI cased have both the #1#2 and the R F markings by the alternator plug. The surest way to tell is the terminal position. ( [II] this needs an external regulator) ( [- -] this has a built in regulator).
