Steve, I believe that J.D. moved the temp pick up on the 40 because of problems of inaccurate readings on the M, as they had a tendancy to read higher than actual. Your complaint seems to be quite common on the J.D. M...As long as it never boils over I wouldn't worry too much about the higher readings. If you are really worried put a therometer in the top of the rad tank & see what the coolant temp leaving the engine is running at. The coolant had to run at 200*+ to run tractor fuel on all-fuel engines so 200* won't hurt it.
