I have 3 Jd model M's one purchased new by my father in 1949. Steve is right the engine can operate at or even above 200*> and not hurt it. Having no water pump the M depends on convection to circulate the water. The only time I have had an over heating problem is when I went a year or so with out oiling the fan and it froze up. In fact they can run at 212* and not boil. Because it takes more heat to boil water after you reach boiling point than it does to get it there. As long as the coolant does not boil away your safe. good luck charles
