Back in the day, when it was IH and not Case/IH, it seemed that if you could buy the part somewhere else, IH was at least competitive in price. On bolts, we could buy them retail from IH cheaper than "wholesale" from Lauson or Parts Associates. But if the part was an IH "proprietary" part, and no competitor had it, you could rest assured it cost an arm, a leg, and your left testicle.
Nowadays, it seems like Case/IH doesn't care about pricing the stuff you can buy elsewhere competitively.
