When a situation occurs where a thoughless neighbor accidentally sets a fire that destroys or damages trees that you've planted and watched grow for 10 or more years...do not get replacement costs. Get valuation costs.
The fire took out about a dozen of my red cedar....6 - 7 inch caliper trunks. Nurserys will quote you a figure of around 5 - 6 hundred dollars for a 8 to 10 foot red cedar (if all you tell them is the apprx height) ...that includes stickin em in the ground.
But what you need to do is ask for the valuation cost and for the inch caliper size of the trunks....that almost doubles the cost and puts the total figure up there where the attorneys start to get interested. 4 to 6 thousand does not excite them...something over 10 thousand does, I just found out.
