electrical system clean-up

Hi everyone most who have frequented this site of late may have figured-out i am re-building my cockshutt 30.although i did not go as far as iwould like with the piston/sleeve the rest is 100%.i hope to install the engine this weekend(need my tractor,40cm this week,still snowing).I would like to take this oppertunity to"clean-up" the electrical system.i read the artical on this site about 12v conversion.my old girl was converted before i got her using a chev alt.she is plaged with problems(pulleys don't line-up,match,and are bent,battery discharges overnite unless lead removed from post,all wires are red,lights follow rpm).have additional alts by ford,vw and old dodge?with sepperate regulator.i know only what i read on this site,any advice?are diagrams and specs published? thanks Al
