I don't think it will be possible to remove the filters without removing the top plate. You will need all the room you can get to maneuver the filter assembly around the drive shaft. I was only able to get mine out after removing the PTO shaft and bending the mounting tab on the filter itself. It's a very tight fit and unless you have having hydraulic problems, I wouldn't even attempt to clean it.
Generic Hy-tran might be ok to use. Check the cross reference table on the oil, if the Ford 134 fluid is listed it will be fine. Otherwise, I wouldn't trust it.
It sounds like you might be new to working on tractors, I highly recommend buying an owners manual and an I&T service manual. These will be you best references on using and working on the tractor. Good luck.
