How are they going to ship me parts for my old tractor over the internet ? I do not think it is really fair to compare USPS to UPS, Fed X and the rest. First of all the PO can't increase their prices without an act of congress. Second they can't abondon the unprofitable areas they serve. My PO serves a community of about 300 people, I am sure they would love to shut this and thousands of others like it down. It dosen't cost much more to run a full mail truck around than a nearly empty one, but the revenue difference is huge. Instead of walking out to the road I would have to drive 50 miles to get the mail, but who knows, that may be gonna happen anyway. UPS comes way out here but FedX does not. In fact, when someone ships to me via FedX, FedX puts a USPS stamp on it and mails it to me. If the USPS was allowed to get rid of places like this and only operate in highly populated areas and charge what the market would bear they could make money. Same thing with Amtrack, if it only operated on the coasts and forgot about everything in between they would make money too.
