If you are not considering using the block , which I wouldn't think,,, I would do with the drilling like you said and use some JB weld. It is tough, and can even drill and tap it. This might sound a little nuts but when I was young, I cracked a block on a minibike(threw a rod!)I put in a new rod and used bondo and it never leaked oil and ran it until it wore the gears off of the crankshaft! Just make sure you get off all paint, rust, ect. clean it good with starting fluid and let it dry and no oil or residue will be left. I would try the JB weld, they use it here to seal up exhaust leaks at places where we can get dual exhaust on and mine hasn't had a leak yet. Hope this helpe. Any questions, e-mail me. Steve
