If it was five (5) quarts low...it was near empty! I would venture to guess that you may have changed the oil within the last few possible minutes before the engine went into self-destruct mode. If it's making lots of bluish smoke, the piston rings are possibly shot, or the cylinders are badly scored from the low-oil situation. It's quite likely that you're headed for a sleeve-piston overhaul in the very near future. The rod bearings would be among the primary suspects for the knocking. If you just can't bear the thought of overhauling it right now (or just can't afford it) you MIGHT be able to postpone that with another oil change using heavier oil, such as 20W-50, or straight SAE 40 or SAE 50. I wouldn't bet on it, however, and it won't put off the problem for long. Good luck!
