Steve, Thanks for sharing your story. I'll share with you how to keep it from happening again. 1) Insist on a detailed, written description (email is OK). 2) Insist on high-quality photographs. The 'Net makes this very easy to do. 3) Know what you think a fair price is before you go. 4) Take a knowledgeable friend with you and play "good guy"/"bad guy". You are the "good guy" as you really want to make the purchase. The "bad guy" points out everything that isn't as represented. Have a sheet of paper and keep writing down the replacement/repair cost of such items. 5) If you still want it, deduct the replacement/repair costs from the asking price. That is your first, last, and best offer. 6) Remember this: "sometimes the best deals are the ones you DON'T make".
