I am the happy owner of a 1974 International Harvester 674. It has a timber crane mounted on the roof, and I primarily use the tractor for forest thinning and firewood production. Although very useful to me, its biggest drawback is that is has only two wheel drive. To date, I have not seen any 674's with 4WD.
However, i recently came across an ad in which somebody is selling his 1974 International Harvester 444, and lo and behold! - it has original 4WD! So I started thinking - if the 444 came with 4WD, then perhaps the 674 also did, and if so, could it be possible to retrofit 4WD on my IH 674?
Now, retrofitting may not be worth the expenditure (I don't know how expensive that would be, if at all possible), but it would be very nice to know if this is at all possible. Therefore, I am hoping that someone in this forum still remembers these classy tractors sold in the 1970's and that he or she could help answer my questions.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
