Just draining the (hot) oil, and letting it drip for quite a while will remove almost all of it, plus changing the filter. These old engines were not made for detergent oils or multi-grade oils. For summer useage, 30W non-detergent oil is recommended. Likely the detergent oil just flushed some sludge from around the valve stems, allowing oil to leak by the seals. The problem arises when this sludge plugs up an oil passage and prevents lubrication at some point. Hang in there this oil iron is fun to play with.
