I always seeded straight alfalfa, never grass, so the rates I used may not apply- would go with the dealers recommendation. Pulling a packer reduces the seed needed by at least a third. Is the Brillion the same width as the drill? Then pull the Brillion behind the drill- once over. He should understand that there is no rush- too cold for the seed to germinate. Alfalfa germinates much better late in May than now, grass may be similar. I don"t understand the rush for Green Acres- I think he is largely uninformed about a lot of things. With a 10 foot drill, you can do about 3-4 acres per hour. Is this land that you rent? It is customary here that if the owner wants hay seeded down, he buys the seed. If you buy the seed, he needs to guarantee you the land for at least three years- customary. If he"s so concerned about cost, why doesn"t he rent the needed equipment and do it himself? Plenty of dealers willing to do that. Might be a good learning experience for him.
