Efco are very well built saws. Going by today's standards, they are 100% professional quality. Very common in Europe, especially Italy where they are made and sold as OleoMac, Emak, etc. All Efcos 46 ccs and bigger have full ball bearing mains, metal crankcases, etc. They got sued over the older "Olympyk" name and had to drop it.
But prices? I haven't seen any good deals around. Dolmar saws have much better pricing and have the most saw for the dollar out there - for a professional level saw.
Dolmar and Sthil evolved at the same time, since the two salesmen and inventors worked togeher (Lerps and Stihl). Emil Lerp and Andreas Stihl both worked as saw salesmen for Rinco in the 1920s. Lerp invented his gas saw first, and Stihl 2nd. Lerp named his company for the mountain, Mount Dolmar.
Dolmar has always been popular in Europe and is now outselling Stihl all over the world.
Makita is an authorized seller of several models of Dolmar in the USA.
Echo also makes some great smaller saws but are overpriced.
Homelite and McCulloch went the homeowner route years ago and disappeared. Both names are Asian-owned now.
Husky and Stihl are now doing the same. Many Stihl saws are now made in China and India. Husky and Poulan Pro come from the same Electrolux company.
Dolmar, right now, has the best saw for the money.
