135 Fan, There you go bad mouthing me because of my opinion on John Deere. You want to compare a JD 4020 with a Ford 9600??? So lets do that.
Ford 9600 list price 1976 $17,500 dollars. Found seven for sale on Tractor house: dropped the highest and the lowest and averaged the rest. $7800 resale value now. So that is 44% of it original value.
John Deere 4020 List price 1972 $10,300 dollars found 184 for sale. So I only used 1970-1972 and dropped any that where not "farm tractors" no restored fresh paint, fishing for a sucker ones. That left 12 with and average price of $11,400. So that is 110% of its original value.
Now would your MF 135 stack up against lets say a John Deere 1020. They are about the same age and horsepower.
MF 135 list price $4385 average like above $4760
JD 1020 list price $4515 average like above$4700
So in this case you MF 135 came out ahead. An I will say that a MF 135 is a pretty good small utility tractor. Now if we went to a larger MF like a MF1100 or MF1135. Then we would get much different numbers.
The truth of the matter is that in small utility tractors 20-30 years old then the Fords and MF are hard to beat.
When you go across the full line of equipment, tractors to combines. I have had better luck with my John Deeres. The second place would be the Internationls. I have had to tell that guy that has a perfect Dustz-Allis 7145 mfwd with 2800 hours that it is only worth $17500 to $19500. (this was 2000) So that $10000 dollars he saved over buying a John Deere 4455 cost him $25,000 to $30,000 now. Real story and I was the only one within driving distance at the time that would even take it in on trade on JD 7810.
