I have mixed feelings about people in their 40's and 50's complaining because they can't find a job. I got the best job of my life when I was 60. I got my current job of Insurance Inspector when I was 70.
Thing is, you have to be flexible and not afraid to try something new. Or learn something new, as far as that goes. People always say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. That's BS. Ten years ago, I took a course in computers at our local community college. I was 65 at the time. Out of a class of 17 other young, traditional students, I finished second. One kid beat me out by two tenths of a point on one project.
As far as the current generation of youngsters goes, I think we've raised a generation of non-communicators. You'd think with all the new technology at hand, young folks would be a whiz at communicating. They're not. How many times have you seen a message posted on some forum, even this one, where you read and re-read it a half dozen times trying to figure out what the heck they're trying to say? I have college professor friends who complain they have juniors and seniors as students who cannot put a comprehensive paragraph together. I've seen it, myself, in classes I've taken recently.
So it seems to me communication is the key. And not by cell phone or texting. Even corporate headhunters say if a candidate has the ability to communicate, they can teach him how to do the job.

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
