well, I managed to flatten two batteries, with the tractor spinning but not firing, I agreed to buy the ford on the strength of everything so far ie, the engine was free and i put the starting issue down to dirty diesel, also the tractor has only worked 4500 hours and this was verified by the vendor having owned it from new - everything is tight and very original. I charged up one of the batteries for 3 hours and returned, this time with a tin of 'easy start'. One squirt into the air intake and it fired into life! It clattered a bit at first, but as there has been no oil circulating for a long time it would be expected. the engine seems to be under powered as when I try to drive in either gear 7 or 8 it dies. because of this I had to drive the 3000 for half a mile in low box. Will the clattering reduce and performance increase after I change the fluids and the filters?
