I was on a paint crew in 1956 when the Ohio Turn Pike just opened that was painting the white lines on the pavement for the entrance of the service plazas. We had set up traffic cones that moved traffic into the left lane as well as the paved burm entering the plaza in a backwards V. We had a flag man out a ways ahead of the traffic cones to slow traffic down it possible. An old couple slowed way down and started into the plaza then turned into the center of the cones where the crew was laying out where the lines were to be painted. the old fellow then turned out into the left lane and the flagger started to stop traffic. the old feller then turned back thru and into the work area and stopped. He rolled down his window any yelled at us, What the H are you people trying to do to me? He then took off back out into the left traffic lane. No problem as the flagger had the traffic stopped. Boss said, A bit confused I guess. Times haven't changed much. I don't think I have arrived there yet but!
