There was a time when I pulled my trailer with a 1 ton pickup with personalized plates on it. The year they gave all new plates, when I went to the County Treasurer's office to renew, they didn't give me tonnage stickers. I asked about it, and the gal, "Ardie", said we no longer put tonnage stickers on personalized plates.
I didn't know any different, so I went about my business. Everytime I'd pull through a scale, the scale officers would pull me in to check my registration and ask why I didn't have tonnage stickers.
I got tired of being hassled all the time, so I called Ardie again, and was again told they do not put tonnage stickers on personalized plates. I decided to call the Nebraska DMV and tell them they better get word to their scale officers.
I called the Nebraska DMV, got transferred a couple of times, and finally told my story to a gal. She replied, "You have to have tonnage stickers, regardless of whether you have regular plates or personalized". I told her I wished someone would tell my County Treasurer that. She asked what county I was in, and said she'd give them a call.
That was about 3pm. About 9am the next morning, I walked into our County Treasurer's office and before I said a word, Ardie said, "I bet you want tonnage stickers", and reached into a drawer and handed me some.
I quit while I was ahead. I said, "Thanks", and beat it out the door.
