As far as I can deduce the smaller diamater post out of the generator is the field. The larger one being the armature. Is this correct?????
YES thats what Id expext as the ARM carries more current then the FLD. If all is there n wired right with an ohmeter to case frame the ARM is less resistance to case frame then the FLD.
I do belive the voltage regulator is 6 volt, how can I be sure????
If theres no label you would have to bench test it and apply DC voltage across the GEN/ARM post and case frame and see if the cutout latches in at like 6 to 7 volts versus 12 to 14.
The tractor (cockshutt 30) is postive ground 6 volt. AS I understand the generator can be polizerized either postive ground or neg ground, is this correct???
YES the genny will work at either Polarity just polarize it before start up as it can harm a VR otherwise
about the regulator being polizered postive ground??? Exactly how doe I polizer both generator and regulator???
Its ONLY the Genny that gets polarized. Some VR's will work at either polarity while others may not.
Hook it up at the ground you want,,,,,Poalrize the genny,,,,,start her up n see what happens

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
