I'll do my best to enlighten your receiver being worthless junk and their deduction of loss.
Each receiver is purchased by the location who sets up the account. Even though some cancel accounts and others show up delinquent, Directv (and Dish) charge the stores for those pieces of equipment. We also are required to send our installer for each of the accounts we setup. Now, if someone scraps their service prior to the contract term date, each service will charge back what they paid out. Equipment plus installation plus commission. So in reality, a typical new account with 2 standard HD boxes is around 700 bucks. The install is reimbursed at 200. The HD dish outside runs 170 bucks. Each receiver at 120 bucks. It doesn't take long to add big money. Yes, they do credit checks, but alot happens in 12 months, let alone 24. People lose jobs, family members, income for some reason or another. I'm all for adding people when I can, but I will never over extend myself to someone who does not care for required items. The choice is yours, not a requirement of me, if you don't care to give the required info, I don't waste the time. Like it or not, thats the way it works. All 3 of the credit reporting companies require social numbers. Sometimes you even have to call them for another method of verification.
I've seen folks who have paid cash their entire life for everything with no credit file. They normally get denied for a new account. Its just the way it works.
If you need further, I'm at (260)665-7101 at noon today. I'll be happy to talk to you even though I can not setup an account outside of our territory.
