My son has found an intriguing opportunity. Only problem is what can we do with them??
There is a literal mountain of metal boxes. Maybe 500 of them available free or almost free. These boxes measure 2 feet wide by 4 feet long and 12 inches deep. The thickness is about 16 or maybe 18 gauge. Evidently they were used for storage of something in a manufacturing facility. Each does have a 6 inch or so angle iron type "handle" at the bottom ends on each end of the units. Those could be cut off for neat stacking.
Oh, I forgot to mention the top edge is rolled over which makes the top just a little wider due to the flange--maybe 1/8 inch wide at the top all around. I am thinking this could be an issue in stacking a lot of them if you tried to keep them all lined up.
So, we were discussing what could be done with these short of sending them to the scrap yard. The configuration makes them bulky to haul without crushing.
I was thinking maybe they could be stacked into walls (brick style) and welded/screwed together to make a building. See--instant storage inside. Course you would have to put some sort of sheathing on the outside (or caulk each joint) and then I am not real sure of how you would support the roof without a conventional post system.
So, what could be done with this find? Any ideas appreciated.
