I will start out with questions that no body thought to ask.
What is your age and do you have a job and if so will you be trying to do it while you are farming? Do you plan to live on the farm or are you going to be living an hour away? Those things will determine size and type of equipment. Then the current renter unless he is wanting to get rid of the ground for some reason, cutting back because of too much to do, retireing, can't make a profit and you take it away from him he will likely never talk to you again let alone do any combining for you. If just slowing down-retireing then he would probably give you guidance but nothing else. If he still wants the ground and you take it away you will probably have an enemy that will not talk to you let alone help you. If you do have other commitments will you have the time to do it in a timely mater or will you be planting a month after it should have been done, same with harvesting. These are things you need to consider and answer to the board before thinking about size or type of equipmemt as it will change there answers somewhat. Also have you done any farm work or magement at all? Living a hour away and with a full time job where would you find the time to do thw farm work? If living on farm with a full time job you would still have evenings to do the work but an hour away you would only have weekends and you should know that when you only have a limited time to do anything something will always come up to keep you from doing it. Not saying don't do it, just think things out good first.

Today's Featured Article - A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
