'J' in 140# and ??

I just read the discussion of the CUB date. I have a 140 with a 'J' following the serial number. Does that mean a Rockford clutch, also? and how many letter versions were there and what did each mean? Another question: was there an original factory material, gasket I guess, placed between the left back fender and the gear box casing? and not on the right side?
