Mike - I've been there (little problem that defies resolution) more times than I can recall! Back in December the generator became very erratic on my Super H. Would charge fine on startup, then would cut out and back in without any pattern, other than that a hammer hit ANYWHERE on the tractor would always get it to work for a minute or two. I put on a new regulator, took apart the generator and turned commutator and put in new brushes, swapped generators, etc. without effect. Finally out of desperation I ran a temporary ground (wire with a couple alligator clips) between the regulator base and the battery ground post. Instantly the problem went away. Turned out the regulator mounting bracket (a 1/4" plate stamping bolted to the motor block) had enough corrosion between it and the block casting to cause in intermittant open to ground. This screwed up the regulator and hence the entire charging system. Live and learn! ...Bob M
