I just got done mounting a Nippon Denso Alternator ( approx. 4 " in diameter, much smaller than the Delco I was trying to fit! ) on my 48 H. I t was super easy to fit, except the wireing leads would have been too close to the hood. I had to disassemble the alternator, and remove the stator and turn it 90 deg. and reassemble it now the wiring leads point down and I have lots of room for adjustment. the Alternator bolted to my old generator mount with a 1 1/2" spacer to line up the pulleys, the uper bolt lines right up with the bolt hole in the thermostat housing so the adjusting bracket is easy to fabricate. the original belt looks as tho it should be an ok fit. Now all I have to do is get the wiring figured out.It has a 3 wire plug with the terminals marked IG, S, L and then there is also the big terminal for the battery lead. I'm thinking the IG should go to the ignition some how. but I have no idea what to do with the others. my buddy who works in a alternator shop tried to tell me but his engilsh is very poor and I got lost in his telling me how to hook it up. He said he would come by to show me. I'll post how it hooks up later. Anyone out there with good english that can help me out??? The hardest part of this has been taking the alternator apartand reassembling it with out damaging it or looseing the small parts. My buddy told me that this alternator is the one all the drag racers want because it is so small and light. I'll post some pictures when I'm finished and a wiring schematic when I figure it out....if that ever happens!!!

Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
