Well it's not number 738 of the Farmall A line it's 738-500 = 238. Too bad the original serial number plate is gone from the seat bracket. However, contrary to what some people claim, the early A's engine numbers match the serial number. This would be a 1939 model year tractor. For further confirmation, there should be some casting numbers lower down and in the middle of the same side of the block. These would be a date with a letter representing the year instead of numbers. A='31 K='41 , so if it's truly an early '39 the engine may have been cast in '38 = H. Of course if it's that early, I don't think a starter was even available, so the original torque tube wouldn't have evan had a hole for the starter.
