Cracked block repair good and not good

Well, just like what hapened to Red, i pulled apart an H recently and I have a cracked block also. I am not quite sure what caused it, but the crack is about 1/3 of the way down the cyl, and horizontal. The crack is only about 1" in visible lenght, but I am worried what is actually happening to cause it. I talked to a repair shop today, and they said that the block could easily be repair sleeved for around $200 or less, so Red there is an option for saving the block you have.. I hope they can save mine as the serial number of the tractor is FBH-700..
