The lettered switch you are referring to on the round box on the steering post is your light switch. If it has 3 letters ( O, D, B) then the letters stand for Off, Dim, and of course Bright. I am a little hazy on the wording and therefore letters as well. But you get the idea of what the 3 settings are. If by chance there is 4 letters and settings, this same switch not only actuated the lights but the cut out on the original generator as well. In this case the letters would be something like this (L, H, D, B). The letters meaning Low Charge, High Charge, and then the next letter would add the Dim Lights and the next and final click or setting would put lights on Bright. The cut out for your tractor has been taken off and eliminated but the light switch my guess remains original. The cut out's were put on early lettered series tractors but later on they were replaced with the improved voltage regulator's. These would regulate the charge on their own. Alternaters I believe are even more improved and don't need a regulater. Well I think it is like built in. The reason your lights aren't hooked up I would guess is becuase they still have 6 volt bulbs. A twelve volt hook up would burn them out. There should also be a switch that grounds out the spark in your mag which would act as a kill switch. I am not sure what the other switch is for. I am wondering if it is an original kill switch that quit working so another one was added. It might be something to that effect. Take another look at it and see if one may have been added, where wires go, and so on and you might be able to figure it out. You probably already know but there should be a pull out deal for the choke and a little turn crank deal for the shutters on the radiator. These two items may have been altered or eliminated as well as the push button deal that actually engaged the starter. Just look at an original one when you get a chance and you will see the way it all should be providing it is original.
