I time my F-30 like this. Pull all your plugs out, crank engine until #1 piston is on compression stroke. Fully retard your spark. It is nice if someone can turn engine for you. I physically watch #1 piston with a small flashlight; as the piston is coming up slowly your impulse should trip right at top-dead center. If it does not take your cap off your mag. and see where your dist. segment is; it should look like about 2 o'clock. If your tractor will start its got to be somewhere in the ball-park. I would then disengage your pawl on your impulse and at a very little at a time move your segment re-engage and crank your engine again, watch #1 one on comp. stroke and see where impulse trips this time. Note if your timing got better or worse and just keep repeating this until she's firing at TDC. Ido not trust the marks on the flywheel; I find this to work the best for me and I've done a mess of them. Give me a holler if you have any more problems.
