The bushings that you are talking about sounds to me that they WERE the rollers that go on the pins in the shifter cam as far as the sheet metal with the bolt in it i would have to see it . the ft. gear should not move more them a few thousanths up to a 16th of and inch , is the rev. shifting fork look woren ? does it have any free travel? it should be tight. sometime they ware in the small key way on the shaft that goes into the fork. If this is the case then it is time for some new pices and parts.
