W-9 gas head on WD-9 diesel block? will it work?

I have a WD-9 with basically good compression, minor crack in the block, and really really good tin, etc. The problem is I believe the injector pump is shot, and maybe the injectors too. Supposedly the engine was overhauled and tranny/rearend rebuilt before it was parked so it should be in overall good condition.

I know the diesel head is prone to cracking, and the pump is expensive. So would a head from a W-9 gas fit the block? I can get a gas head complete with manifold, carb, etc. for less than $500. The reman head for a diesel is over $700.

Does anyone know for sure?
