Coughing under load I think is a sign of a lean condition. To check before adjusting anything, pull the choke a little bit when it coughs. If it runs smooth when you pull the choke, you will need to adjust the high speed jet (the one on the bottom of the float bowl). Turn the jet out (counterclockwise) to richen the mix. Hope this helps.
