Howdy all. I have a '47 M with a shudder in the right brake pedal when applied. I naturally assumed that when I removed the brake cover, that I would see metal to metal between the brake band and the drum. Wrong! The band and drum are fine, however, upon closer inspection of the outboard bearing on the pinion shaft, I see chunks out of the ball bearing. I know I must remove alot of stuff to remove this shaft (axle shaft, axle housing, pto, etc.) My question is, will the actual spider (bevel gear) drop out of sight on me, or will it stay put. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Am I barking up the wrong tree? This is my first tractor and I've only had it for a month and a half...already replaced timing gears on Sunday. Seems I'm getting a crash-course in Farmallology...Thanks for any advise.
