my quest for converting the 400 to 12v has turned up other questions: alternators themselves: ok our late 60s-70s IH products have DR alternators but they have regulators too. specifically a 656 gas 1256 diesel, and 230 windrower (c-153 gas). they have just as many terminals as a 10-si, but have a regulator too. what is this setup. It would be helpful to know this to buy repair kits, or hock stuff off autos :) ballast resistors: the 656 has one mounted next to the regulator, apparently a 6v ignition benefitting from 12v charging system? can't recall one on the 230 windrower though. this next one really baffles me! ---> the 1256 has a ballast resistor mounted next to its regulator!!! any explanation of this? thanks for all the help -karl
