high range on H

I recently posted a question about a high range on a H. I wasn't sure if I was clear on my question, but there is a cable I pull out to put it into high range. It has 1-5 gears on the shifter, and 5th gear is fast as it is, but when you pull out this cable, it puts it into high range and it is scarey to drive, is that a rare option or is it standard. Hope that is more clear, thanks for all the help!
