Olaf, I have a 48 H and it doesn't have any High range, No cable to pull. I've never seen anything in any of my IH manuals about any high range option. So I assume what you have is an aftermarket item. I have heard that M&W made some sort of multirange (9 speed or something like that)set up for the M tractors so maybe they also did for the H. I'd have to agree with you that anything faster than 5th gear on my H would be pretty hairy to drive. The 3 rib front tires I recently put on my H are rated for only 25 miles per hour maximum. That's not a whole lot faster than the H will run in 5th gear.
