Gary,

The Farmall 240 and International 240 have the same basic drive train but a complete different configuration. The Farmall is a high profile row crop tractor. It has a flat transmission top and the seat is high on top of this. The rear axles are long and the rear wheels clamp to the axle so they can slide for different row spacing. The standard rear wheels are 36". Tricycle front was standard with single front or wide front axle optional. If the Farmall was equipped with a wide front axle, it still had the tricycle bolster and a steering arm was attached where the normal tricycle front was mounted. The International is of a low profile design. The front blolster is designed to work with the wide front axle only. It has a shorter wheelbase than the Farmall. The rear wheels are mounted to flanges on the rear axles. The standard wheels are 28". The rear end is designed where the operator sits straddle of the transmission in a much lower position than on the Farmall. Although both tractors have the same drive train, they were tested seperately at Nebraska. The Farmall 240 test #667 CHP 28.87 db hp, 32.22 pto hp; International 240 test #668 CHP 28.91 db hp, 32.24 pto hp. The standard Farmall shipping weighe is 3360 lbs and the standard International shipping weigh is 3099 lbs. Both tractors have live hydraulics, available with o, 1, or 2 auxilary valves, and were available with 2-point or 3-point hitch. The tractor was introduced in late 1958 and was built 58, 59, 60, and 61. The 240 was a continuing evolution of the Super C line and is a very good tractor. Price depends on area. Hope this information helps.

Today's Featured Article - Talk of the Town: Winterizing Engines - To Drain or Not to Drain? - by Russ Berry. What is this strange attraction I have to equipment and machinery? How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most ... [Read Article]
