When I was flying the ALL-WEATHER interceptor (F4 Phantoms) we'ed just split up into two, two plane elements, bore straight up through the goo, and join up the four on top.
One time on a fly-in to Cubi Point, Cag was leading 12 aircraft and he took the whole bunch of us down through about 8000 feet of slop. Talk about your pucker factor. Gordo
