Thanks for the info. My best guess was that the studs were some sort of dowel pin threaded in from the bottom or maybe a jackscrew to set a more precise alignment than the regular bolts would. I never would have thought of pulling them out with a nut... Had thought of trying to back them out with vise-grips maybe, but was askeered to till I knew what I was getting into. I'll monkey with the coupler bolts some more. I'm assuming that once I have the coupler free and lift the engine the entire shaft/yolk/throwout bearing assembly with come on out with the engine.
